A New RISC-KIt article is published in the journal Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences

Entitled, "Can an early-warning system help minimize the impacts of coastal storms? A case study of the 2012 Halloween storm, northern Italy," the article explores forecasting in the Emilia Romagna region, the location of the RISC-KIT Porto Garibaldi-Bellocchio case study site.

 

RISC-KIT partners have published a new research article entitled, "Can an early-warning system help minimize the impacts of coastal storms? A case study of the 2012 Halloween storm, northern Italy," The paper, published in the journal Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences last month, is another result of the collaboration between RISC-KIT researchers and End Users at the Geological, Seismic and Soil Service of the Emilia-Romagna Region (SGSS).

 

This paper explores the performance of different Early Warning Systems in the region in the context of an historical storm scenario. The study allowed for testing a series of what-if scenarios with regard to the emergency response along the coastal area and demonstrated the overall benefits of an early-warning system for a vulnerable coastline such as Emilia-Romagna.
