[CONFERENCE] 3rd European Conference on Flood Risk Management

17 - 21 October, 2016, Lyon, France.

 

FLOODrisk is the quadrennial conference dedicated to all aspects of flood risk management. FLOODrisk 2016 will take place in Lyon, France this year, from 17 to 21 October. FLOODrisk 2016 will explore advances in flood risk management practice, will explore flood risk, the causes of floods, their impacts on people, property and the environment, and explore flood risk management measures. FLOODrisk 2016 will bring together researchers, policy makers and practitioners from across the world to share experience and progress made in flood risk research, policy and management practice.

 

FLOODrisk 2016 will include contributions from a variety of national, European and international flood related initiatives as well as wider international practice. In particular, science policy interfacing, the applicability of flood risk research into practice, communication and international networking will be considered.

 

Conference themes include:

  • Characterising the flood hazard:  Probability of floods and storms, Climate change, Performance and behaviour of flood defences, Hazard analysis and modelling
  • Characterising the consequences: Physical, economic and environmental consequences, Loss-of-life estimation and modelling, Critical infrastructure and cascading impacts
  • Characterising the flood risk: Vulnerability and societal resilience, Risk perception and communication, Hazard and risk mapping, Risk evaluation and assessment
  • Risk Reduction and Management: Long-term protection and prevention measures, Non-structural measures and instruments, Management and maintenance of infrastructure, Public education and engagement, Learning from past events
  • Decision making, policy and governance: Policy appraisal, investment planning and decision making tools; Adaptation to long term change; Residual risk and insurance; EU Floods Directive and international basins; Ethics, equity and social responsibility
