Role in RISC-KIT: The main tasks of Ecologic Institute within RISC-KIT will be (i) WP4 leader; (ii) designing and evaluating integrated cost-effective risk reduction and resilience plans; (iii) creating a web-based management guide for decision makers and producing policy recommendations at national and EU levels; and (iv) support WP1 case study site analysis with special focus on the quantitative and qualitative socio-economic, cultural and environmental data, as well as dissemination WP6 and application WP5.

Description: Ecologic Institute is a transdisciplinary research organization focusing on environmental issues. In addition, the researchers at Ecologic Institute provide policy analyses and consulting services. Ecologic Institute has offices in Berlin, Brussels, Washington DC and San Mateo CA.

Ecologic Institute was founded in 1995 as an independent research institute. Since its founding, Ecologic Institute has built a reputation for excellence in transdisciplinary and policy-relevant research. Through its participation in large-scale international collaborations, Ecologic Institute increases the relevance of its project results and improves communication among scientists, policymakers and the public. Ecologic Institute also provides ongoing expert advice on emerging issues through its framework agreements with the European Parliament (Consultancy for the Environment Committee and Framework Contract Development Policy), the European Environment Agency and the European Commission, eg. DG Research & Innovation. The insights of Ecologic’s staff provide practical ways forward for policymakers seeking to address complex challenges. Over the years, Ecologic’s work has informed the decision-making processes of a wide variety of international institutions, national ministries, sub-national and local authorities and non-profit organizations.
