Role in RISC-KIT: The main tasks of EurOcean within RISC-KIT will be (i) WP6 leader; (ii) responsible for the development and implementation of the main dissemination and transference tools and products and activities, including digital communication materials, the networking workshop and final event as well as, the capacity building activities; (iii) steering committee member.
Description: The EurOcean - The European Centre for Information on Marine Sciences and Technology, officially created on February 28th 2002 as a result of a joint French-Portuguese initiative, is a European non-profit Foundation which aims 1) to facilitate access to, compile and process appropriate information on marine sciences and technologies; 2) to stimulate the development and use of quantitative indicators related to marine sciences and technologies; 3) to facilitate and encourage communication and cooperation between European organisations with activities in marine sciences and technologies; 4) to prepare analyses, reports and other relevant products, in accordance with the requirements of the EurOcean Member’s, partner organisations and other appropriate organisations.
EurOcean has strong connections with national and international bodies related to policy, funding/development, scientific communication and networking. In addition EurOcean is involved in the most relevant policy events, being invited as keynote speaker (in the person of its Executive-Director) in several of those events, as for example the EuROCEAN2010 conference, which had as a major outcome the Ostend Declaration.
