Role in RISC-KIT: The main tasks of MU-FHRC within RISC-KIT will be (i) WP2 leader and steering committee member; (ii) development of the coastal risk assessment framework tool including indicators (Tasks 2.2 and 2.3); (iii) contribution to WP4 Tasks 4.1 and 4.2 with respect to the multi-criteria analysis; (iv) support in the use of the CRAF in WP5 and participation to the UK case study; (v) dissemination activities (Tasks 6.1 and 6.3).

The “Flood Hazard Research Centre” of Middlesex University has developed as an interdisciplinary research centre carrying out applied policy research over more than thirty year history. Research has been undertaken for various government departments, NGOs and others in the UK as well government bodies overseas and international agencies, including the OECD, the WMO, and UNEP. Whilst centred on flood risk management, we approach the risk of flooding in the context of wider systems. Recent research has concentrated on the related human, environmental and social dimensions of water, coastal and hazard management.

Lead person: Dr. Christophe Viavattene Lead researcher for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at the Flood Hazard Research Centre of the Middlesex University with skills covering a wide range of fields (Ecology, Geography, Modelling, Environmental Economics) interested on understanding how society can better manage the environment through the lens of the water resources and their associated risks (e.g. flood, drought, pollution).
